The exhibition that Palazzo dei Diamanti is scheduled for spring 2012 will for the first time in our country the work of Joaquín Sorolla (1863-1923), an extraordinary interpreter of modern Spanish painting.
Prominent member of the Belle Epoque, a celebrated portrait next to Sargent and Boldini and Sorolla is now considered one of the most fascinating personalities of the Spanish art scene at that crucial period, between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, marked by the spread of the Impressionist and Symbolist poetry.
Ferrara Art pays tribute to the master of Valencia with an exhibition organized in collaboration with the Museo de Bellas Artes of Granada and the Museo Sorolla in Madrid, that the host after the onset of the Italian and edited by a committee of experts such as Tomás Llorens , Blanca Pons-Sorolla, María López Fernández and Boye Llorens.
The exhibition focuses on a pivotal moment in the parable of the creative artist: the years of maturity and, in particular, the works created by the fascination of the theme of the garden and meeting with Andalusia. At this stage of his life, despite the success and official posts, Sorolla continues to reflect on the possibilities of their art and develop an original production featuring the poetry of silence and intimacy and a sophisticated language, which reveal striking similarities with the Symbolist and modernist sensibilities of his time. The exhibition explores for the first time that this process of introspection and search for the essential, shedding new light on the artistic personality of Sorolla. It will also be an opportunity to deepen the relations between the Spanish artist and Giovanni Boldini.
Opening the show will be an important series of family portraits of the painter in the setting of gardens and fountains: masterpieces such as María Valencia dressed as a peasant, jumping rope, or looking at the fish, in which the figures blend into the atmosphere sparkling brushstrokes of pure color or draw sinuous shapes of gleaming lakes, in an interplay between the subject and the landscape that promises to last the modern production of Sorolla.
In the halls of the Palazzo dei Diamanti will develop a compelling narrative, interwoven with biographical references to the experience of Sorolla and contemporary culture, through a selection of 60 paintings and a small group of drawings and precious documents from public and private collections , among which is the Museo Sorolla in Madrid.
Curated by Tomas Llorens, Blanca Pons-Sorolla, María López Fernández and Boye Llorens, organized by Ferrara Arte, in collaboration with the Museo de Bellas Artes in Granada and the Museo Sorolla in Madrid.
